Sadly, in the interview of the author, he stated that Subaru's parents are still grieving for the loss of their child after Subaru disappeared to the isekai

Jesse Collins

Nice observation. The fact that his Dad is naturally social and good looking, it makes him quite popular among anyone who he interacts with, including among high school girls, which he even gets their email addresses. Since Subaru doesn't have that side of his dad, it makes him try even harder for him to remain 'special' among his friends and people, hence why it shows the copies of his dad around him talking with everyone he goes.

This episode was beautiful and I was crying as much as you were 😭 at the same time though, this was the saddest episode for me.. I mean imagine being transported to some random world with almost no hope of going back home and having to come to terms with that as Subaru :( and also finally being able to say goodbye properly even if it was just a vision must have meant the world to Subaru.. I'm crying all over again.

It was a pleasure watching this reaction. :)

Just a little titbit from the novels in regards to Subaru's homesickness. He's only been in this world for about two months, around eight or nine weeks. Plus he's had a lot of stuff to deal with. He hasn't really had much time to think about missing home and his parents.

Also the novel makes a point of saying he's actively tried not to think about it until now because he knows he will probably never see his parents again.

Apparently in an interview from 2014 the author said that from Subaru's parents point of view he had gone missing and they have no idea what's happened to him.

I’m guessing they probably thought he committed suicide or ran away or kidnapped since he left his home with such dark expressions.

I hate that. And I hate how realistic it is. (not the isekai part)

It kind of feels like Subaru can't accept himself even remotely as much as his parents did & he felt like getting kicked out & pushed away by them would be what he deserved...as if he had to earn it.
