By the way to answer your question about what rem was trying to atone for, in your video at exactly 10:45, rem says “ all of this is atonement for what I thought on that fiery night”, then if you go to exactly 9:45 in your vid, you’ll see that rem smiles and says “it finally broke off”. So pretty much rem feels guilty for being happy that ram lost her horn and started becoming a perfectionist cuz she hates herself for feeling that way on that night. But your also right about your theory about how she felt useless and didn’t help ram or subaru. There’s many reasons I’m sure the writer wanted us to capture haha

Okay I am gonna explain this best I can so you do not feel left out. I came to this conclusion by all the information you have gathered so far in the anime. The reason Rem attacked Subaru that night in the Alternate timeline in episode 7ish is because he was being suspicious and he has the witches scent. The witches scent was something Rem implimented into her head the night her village was attacked and destroyed and lost everything but her sister. Rem had no insight on what Subaru was doing so putting 2 and 2 together, with him lying that he was going on a journey to afar and that he has the witches scent doesn't help. Subaru overseeing the mansion with a knife in his bag made it look like he was planning to attack the mansion and try to assassinate everyone. Due to all that Rem attacked him trying to get answers out of him and because he had the witches scent she came to the conclusion that Subaru is a spy likely sent by the people that attacked her village that night. So she doesn't have to experience that pain again and potentially actually losing everything (especially with her sister being weakened) she beat Subaru to get answers out of him before Ram killed him with her wind magic. To add to the suspicion he showed up out of the blue in the middle of a royal election with Emilia being a candidate. So with putting all that together Rem had a valid reason to do what she did before. But the thing is that was an alternate timeline so all that happened in that timeline doesn't matter really.
