You know. It just hit me. The Berry Agents were literally a Deus Ex Machina in character form. They appeared suddenly from within a machine sphere, and with no prior context to their existence conveniently had the powers of solving our hero's problems entirely. So Mel is right. She was literally saved by a Dues Ex Machina plot! Ha! Cheeky!
