Dear Patrons,

The Kapp Putsch of March 1920 was one of the events that nearly led the young Weimar Republic to an early grave. At the core of this event was an elite paramilitary unit that took over Berlin, right-wing reactionary civil servants, and an army with questionable loyalties.

Hope you enjoy, have a great weekend!

The Kapp-Lüttwitz Putsch nearly ending the Weimar Republic (March, 1920)

After the German Empire lost the First World War and the Kaiser abdicated, the newly established Weimar Republic lingered in an incredibly unstable and chaotic situation. Both the far left and far right rejected parliamentary democracy.  One of the most infamous events must have been the Kapp Putsch. During the night of March 12 1920, an elite paramilitary unit entered Berlin. It aimed to overthrow the democratically elected government and install an autocratic military regime. Surprisingly enough, these paramilitary troops enjoyed support from the actual army and a considerable number of civil servants. For a moment, it looked like the young Weimar Republic already came to an end, before it really had begun.  Consider supporting HoH: ►Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjvbQ_ZRQ0EH6qVYQ9ApXCw/join ►Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HouseofHistory ►Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/HouseofHistory Check out House of History: the Podcast ►iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/house-of-history-the-podcast/id1549558236 ►Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/71f9cyleacVjQiSCEP2VGh?si=tGsietBeSD2q589fKDWsdg Socials: ►Check out my blog: https://www.houseofhistory.co ►My Twitter: https://twitter.com/Oscar_HoH My videos tend to get arbitrarily demonetized.
