I'd imagine he can. its probably that jack isnt ready to commit to that (maybe waiting on Maurice?) and Maurice is still to scared to eat in general perhaps.

It doesnt seem very accessible to get bird meat now that's the house is gone especially since he cant fly but they have been able to eat insects but Monti has been eating like that his whole life basically to Jack and Maurice they've never need to yet

Yes monti eats incects and Maurice doesn’t want to eat mice so he having a hard time with his diet Jack needs to understand why Maurice feels that way
