This is all making sense for how the animals wete able to develop. Except that there is no explanation for what happened to the humans but I am still enjoying the story and not complaining.

Haven't worked out that part yet I'm guessing they might be far enough out in the boonies that the doses of radiation they get weren't enough to kill them off or maje them sterile I do know it can cause some serious abnormalities for generations which theoretically could have lead to them evolving I think that'd have to be the case or something similar for it to happen so fast normally things like they went through would take hundreds of years or more they fact that remnants of human civilazation is still around in decent shape prives thats not the case so idk how ekse it could've happened so fast
