I started this picture not really knowing how to finish it, but hoped I'd figure it out within a week. If I worked on it for yet another week I think I could find my way to the finish, but I don't think I've got the passion to complete it.
My normal illustration process is very methodical and I'm deeply familiar with the steps necessary to bring something to a finish. With both this and the attempted Rauru piece from September, I tried a more "painterly" approach, squashing all those familiar stages of art into one long stage of rendering. It's good to experiment and practice elements of art you're unfamiliar with, but maybe not so good when people are paying you to create art on a consistent schedule.
Next time I decide to experiment, I'll try a less ambitious piece and take it easier on myself. I hope this one is far enough along that people can still find some enjoyment out of it.
