Like most game makers I'm always trying to create artwork better, quicker, cheaper. Below are a couple images of the same scene. The top made (Mostly) with AI and the bottom using images I created / purchased. Both took about the same amount of time. AI isn't totally there yet. For every image I can use, I generate about 20-40 images, then have to fix those images. So I was wondering what ya'll thought about my use of AI

I like the AI for this one better

I feel like I prefer the top one, but it's more obvious it's Lola in the bottom

The game developer could have it were Lola or whoever that is had there hair down in the previous scene

Tbh I prefer some consistency in the art style.

FF5

I could. That's an older image I've never really like, but if everyone else loves it more I'll happily replace the character

If given the time, would you go back and update all the old art throughout the game to the new style?

FF5

I completely agree. When it comes to background images, this is the hardest thing to keep consistent. In this release alone I have around 10 new backgrounds. If I paid an artist for each background it would cost $2,000 - $1,500 and take 8 - 10 weeks. So I do pay for some backgrounds, I've been using purchased stock images for others. The problem with stock is that there's aren't that many I can legally use (Don't want to get a DMCA take down) so I'm trying the Ai for some consistency and maybe update some of the other backgrounds with the Ai to keep it consistent

That's a very good question I've been pondering over. Yes, for some of them. There are a few images I hate, but didn't have a good way to fix at the time. Like the University background; It's terrible and there's only 1 image to update. A giant redo is unlikely

I'm impressed with how well the AI images came out.

FF5

I found one that creates 16 images at a time. Had to run it a few times to get the prompts right, but it did pretty good. All the characters are placed in the scene. Ai is not good enough for that yet

Isnt Ai art coming under fire from DMCA take downs for drawing from images that are not royalty free?

FF5

That is a really interesting conversation. I'm not a lawyer but my understand is that since AI art is not done by a human it's not copywriteable. Ai anyone can use my ai images. But to say that an AI image is from a copywrited work they would have to prove that. Those that have watermarks are easy, but an image that is a composite of 100s of images becomes more difficult to prove. As the technology matures I'm sure we'll see what rules come from it

Not a lawer either but its been in alot of forums etc. At the moment they are going after a few Ai art programs themselves, assuming if they win then there will be issues with art generated by it. I think alot of artists are getting angry their stuff is being used with modifications and they get nothing, cos without base samples the ai wont work.

i like the style of the top one but the foot and the arms are just to wrong to overlook. bottom one for me.

FF5

Good news. I used the background from the top one, but Lola's image I used the bottom one. So best of both worlds!
