I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a week with the Green Tortoise Adventure Travel Bus Tour.  We started the trip on a Saturday out of downtown San Francisco making our way down Highway 1 through Santa Cruz, Monterey, then to our first campsite in Big Sur. We spent the night making a communal dinner by headlight before roasting marshmallows around the campfire.

The next morning started off (giving me flashbacks to when I lived on the Ranch) with some cowboy coffee and fresh fruit as we packed up our sleeping bags and got ready for the day's start to L.A. We stopped off at San Simon State Park where I wandered around the beach and did a little hike to the point you see in the fourth photo. The weather along the coast always has me in awe. You can be walking along the coast and to one side of you is a brilliantly blue sky and the other side, a massive fog and mist! It's like you're on a different planet sometimes, I love it! After there we made the drive down to our last night camping in Malibu where we had a nice little fire before everyone kicked it for the night, getting some shut eye before the night in L.A.

I have to say I have a soft spot for Southern California. I've bopped around there more times than I can count and was hyped I got to be a tourist for the day. The bus I was traveling with would drop us off at the "stops", giving us recommendations but would overall let us do our own thing. Here we made our first stop in Hollywood, where of course, I wandered down the famous Boulevard searching for stars I know and a peak at the Hollywood sign, I was a tourist after all! After an hour or two we hopped back onto the air conditioned bus and made our way to Venice! I led some of the folks from the tour along the canals before breaking off to find come ice cream and to stick my toes in the sand. After taking a good walk up the beach I parked my bum at the skatepark near the main area of the boardwalk and soaked up some sun. The weather was a good change from the cooler weather we were having in the Bay at the time.  After Venice we made our way in rush hour to Santa Monica where I stayed the night at a hostel near the beach. (continued in Pt. 2)
