EC Studio Director Geoffrey here!

As you all know, I get to work with an incredible team of artists, writers, producers, and game designers, and together we release 2 animated short-form videos every week; our shows are Extra History, Extra Mythology, So You Haven’t Read, and Extra Credits. And while these are all things we’re passionate about, you may notice that one of these subjects is a bit different than the others.

Well, over time the YouTube algorithm has evolved to notice as well. For the past few years, we've seen the Venn diagram of our viewership drift further apart, which in turn affects the discoverability, and therefore viewership, of our videos.

For example, a new viewer discovering Extra History, our most popular show, might watch parts 1 and 2 of the “Irish Potato Famine” series, but then be recommended our "What Kind of Game Designer Are You" video rather than “Irish Potato Famine” part 3. And while both are interesting topics, they do not necessarily appeal to the same person… which can confuse the YouTube algorithm, and by proxy, our viewers as well.

And as you may have seen, we have a plan! This week we’re moving Extra Credits, our game culture and game design show, over to a brand new second channel - and if you’re interested in this kind of content, we’d love it if you could subscribe and make sure to watch our first few videos here: https://www.youtube.com/@extracreditsgaming

One of the things YouTube looks for is momentum, so the more people that subscribe to our new channel and watch our first videos, the more the YouTube algorithm thinks “oh, these folks are interesting” and recommends viewers with profiles similar to yours… which will be incredibly helpful for both our short and long term growth.
