Fixing Broken Politics - Never Going To Jail - Extra Politics

Most systems that give unilateral control to a single person tend to include some pretty steep penalties if that person abuses their power. So what if the president misbehaves? What are the systems in place to try and prevent presidential corruption? The answer is... they are few and far between. With Unitary Executive Theory, there is very little incentive for the president NOT to abuse power. After all, most of the committees responsible for oversight work for the president and can be dismissed for any reason, creating a large conflict of interest. Then there's the presidential pardon which greatly incentivizes loyalty to the president. So we have some more patch notes. "The court has made its ruling. Now let them enforce it." The executive branch is responsible for carrying out punishments. It would take a 2/3 majority of Congress to find them in violation of the constitution. As a practical matter I'm not sure you can actually force them to punish someone. Just as prosecutors have controle over who they prosecute. Even if you force them to show up, they might not necessarily do a good job. Raises the question of how the legislature and judiciary actually do limit the executive, because everything they do is just a parchment garunty. Something worth exploring in a video. Everyone know separation of powers works. I'm not sure if people understand why it works in practice. What would actually stop an executive coup.

I wonder if banning the president from future elections could be seen as a less instant, but still dramatic punishment to be used as an alternative to Impeachment. Though a large part of the problem is the two party system breaking a lot of systems, even a basic majority would require “traitors”, from a party’s point of view.
