Asset Flips vs Reuse - Working Hard or Hardly Working? - Extra Credits

If you're interested in checking out the work of devs affected by GDC and E3's cancellation, you can find our list here: https://www.extracredits.site/indie-game-megaphone Asset flips have a bad reputation these days. The lazy cash grabs frankensteined from different asset packs and just barely functional controls the have flooded Steam for the last few years. It's gotten to the point where even larger companies have caught flack for reusing animations or character models. But can asset reuse be a valuable design tool? Oooo special airing tomorrow?! Forgiven!

To my knowledge "Asset Flip" is when little to no work is done: Buying mismatching assets and lopping them together. Robots in medieval castles, some monsters being high resolution others low polygon, some having animations when hit, while others do not. So in my opinion the video is using the word "Asset Flip" incorrectly. It is not about Fallout 2 using many of the same assets of Fallout 1. It is about buying assets from the unity store and then selling it on steam for 20$. Good science use references, expanding on top of the foundation of others. Greedy scientists copy the works of others and makes it appear like it is their own work. I fear that this video will confuse viewers on what the word "Asset Flip" means :( Reuse of assets is not an "Asset Flip" House Flipping is taking a house, making it better and selling it for more money. "Asset Flip" in this analogy would be to buy a worn down house, take a few good looking photos(screenshots) put it on a sales page (steam) for a higher price. ..while trying to fool people into thinking that it is a newly built house that you just made yourself.
