Fate (and corrupt officials) conspired against him to have him repeatedly knocked down from the success he had earned, often because his insistence on strict military codes and refusal to ignore corruption made enemies of his fellow officers. Even when his superior had him tortured and blamed after a loss to the Jurchen raiders from the north, Yi perservered. Stripped of his rank and now reduced to a common enlisted man, Yi nevertheless served Korea with distinction. Meanwhile his childhood friend, Ryu Seong-ryong, had risen to become the prime minister of Korea. Ryu recognized the threat of war from Japan looming on the horizon, so when Yi asked to retire in 1588, Ryu convinced him to stay. ____________ Get the intro music here! http://bit.ly/1EQA5N7 *Music by Demetori: http://bit.ly/1AaJG4H Get the outro music here! http://bit.ly/1NbpIcd *Music by Sean and Dean Kiner: http://bit.ly/1LBy9zh __________ Extra History - Warring States Japan: Sengoku Jidai The Battle of Okehazama: http://bit.ly/1xgZxfi Extra Credits - How Does Frame Rate Affect Gameplay? It feels REALLY weird to not have the Extra History Intro at the beginning of the video

I know it comes a bit later but... eh... feels -off-

If I had to pick a word to define Yi's early career, it would be integrity.

If I had to pick a word to define Yi's early career, it would be unyielding.

Yeesh! Finally! The tale of the immortal admiral can begin. I must say it's a pretty nice switch from the greedy and corrupt Crusaders to the honorable soldier who fulfilled his duty and maintained his integrity to the very end. A question though: What source do you refer to when you draw the characters?

The Cayute

To paraphrase my grandfather, "That Yi is one ornery, stubborn sonovabitch." It's gonna be pretty sweet seeing Yi whip the Japanse....And I just realized, this is the first time we're getting a 'sequel' Extra History :D

Simply Awesome! Great rolemodels and stories motivate people to virtuous action, integrity, and perseverance. Thank you for sharing as always :)

I would not have had the strength of character to put up with all this corruption. I'd likely have led a revolt after the first or second conspiracy against me. I've no tolerance for corrupt politicians, especially when I'm the target of their ill games.

You really have to give it to Yi. The guy is basically the scapegoat for all of his superiors so that they can get away with their own ignorance and he stays. Most of us wouldn't take a fraction of what YI went through in our regular jobs before we'd just look for something else to do. I think I'm really gonna like this series.

When the episode starts and it talks about 1572 being 26 years earlier it is a little awkward and unnecessary as we had no framing to state that the story is focused on the later time. It would have been better to simply start by telling the story of the examination in 1572. Otherwise great episode.

Thank you, your awesomness

Im so thrilled to be able to donate, cause you find these people I /really/ want to know about. if I was in school i would of ate up stories about this guy.

I believe in addition to this being cause he is awesome it is because of his religion. I hope that is talked about a bit. My assumption from what I know is that failing in his duty would be something to close to losing salvation.

Oh yes :D

Yeah, I hadn't heard of Admiral Yi before we started this series either, but his story is so impressive! -Soraya

You make that sound like a royal title. ;) Instead of "your highness" it's "your awesomeness!"

Thanks for the feedback! We're playing around with our video format to see what more we can do with it. Gonna be kinks here and there, though!

Me too! And even if I got mad, I doubt I would have had the guts to stand up in front of an open court (of people who had approved my *torture*) and still call out Yi Il. You gotta figure that was a pretty big risk, considering. -Soraya

Yi Sun-sin is the national hero of Korea, and his story is really amazing. We're doing our best to do it justice!

ExtraCredits

Yeah, it's weird seeing the Imjin War from the other side and our former "hero" Toyotomi become an enemy in this series, isn't it? But also great getting this perspective!

ExtraCredits

I hadn't thought of that, but yeah, Yi is definitely a big change from the stars of the First Crusade series. For Yi, we have a bunch of different references - old paintings, statues, etc. - that we've put together to create his image. Here's two examples: http://www.koreanhero.net/en/AboutYiSunsin.htm

Very well done as always, I can't wait for more. However I do have a question. I am one of your $3 dollar tiered backers but i never received an email for the 1 day early access. I'm not mad or anything like that, I'm just wondering what happened?

ExtraCredits

That's odd. Early access went up September 25 around 2am, if I remember correctly. I would try checking your spam folders for anything sent around that time, to see if perhaps Patreon is getting spam-blocked on your account.

ExtraCredits

I (Soraya) haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but several members of our team have and they all loved it!

William Warren

Will be interesting to see how Robert Walpole gets himself into this one :D

Pssst. Early access for this week is about to go up right now! Keep an eye on your inbox for it.
