We're kicking off the new year by wrapping up our Policing series. Since we've spent the series discussing London's move from citizen policing to state-funded and state-operated law enforcement, let's talk about what happens when you get money into the mix. And there's no private police force more famous than the scourge of union workers and labor strikes, the Pinkerton Agency, the Knights of Capitalism.


But would you be surprised to learn that their founder was a progressive and an abolitionist, forced out the UK after his own activist work. How did a man like Allan Pinkerton found an organization that stood in direct contrast to his own history?

If cities, e.g., Seattle, can't (wont?) provide public safety while prohibiting citizens from defending themselves, then perhaps we need another Pinkerton equivalent.

Garbage episode. It barely gave any information about the Pinkertons themselves, just a brief bio about thier founder and some pinko undertones. The title alone looks like the kind of tabloid worker's journal shit Vox would put out. "Knights of capitalism"? What Bolshavik Bullshit are you huffing to think union busting is capitalism? I suppose you And the rest of Trotsky Triad think Manopoly; (the literal subversion of Capitalist principles) is also capitalism! PMCs fight for capitalism. Pinkertons fought criminals, and by association got dragged into fighting communists as well, because the decentralized government couldn't handle the job at the time.

A fantastic episode that showed the strange beginnings and organization of the Pinkertons and about how the organization first began and how and why Allan Pinkerton started the whole thing. A very good look at how you can see that having a private police force that works for the highest bidder is not exactly the greatest idea for anyone except for the richest of the rich and will be used to suppress worker rights and power.
