Each one of these temples gets grander and more beautiful than the last! Today we're talking about Jayavarman VII the Great, and his project to transform Angkor into a more defensible city after it had been looted by the Champa. He'll turn it into Angkor Thom, and within, build the temple Bayon, a fusion of Buddhist and Hindu architecture which had never been seen before.

Did the Khmer pay the Elephants used during the construction of Angkor Wat using hay?

Only after the Great Elephant Strike led to labor unions for elephants. Before that, the pay was peanuts. -badum tiss- - A

I assume you're referring to the Events leading up to the Great South East Asian Animal Revolution alluded to by Karl Marx when he wrote the Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital?

Do we know why he was such a successful military leader despite previously being a pacifist? Did he have really good generals?
