Eventually the Taiping Rebellion is going to have to get its own series. Because that was a LOT.

Hooray! A First Forray into 20th Century Chinese History! [A Pity though that the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward won't be Covered. *sigh*]

What is the significance of the golden statues?

There are just so many map mistakes in this episode. I hope you could do more study about how Qing dynasty's map changed in 19th century before doing next episode.

That is Kwan Tai, the Han dynasty general immortalized as the God of War. He's worshipped by many business people but especially those in honor professions like police, lawyers, and (paradoxically) Triads. There's a persistent folk rumor in Hong Kong that you can tell a Triad Kwan Tai statue from a "legit" one because Kwan Tai holds his weapon in his left hand rather than his right.

There *may* be a very geeky Easter Egg next episode... ;-)

We will talk in Lies about the Taiping Rebellion's influence on Sun—one of his early teachers was a participant, and he idolized the Taiping Rebels.

I've been binging Extra History for weeks now. It was about time I became a patron. Keep up the awesome work! Also, I can use ad-blocker guilt free now ^_^

I have been a supporter for some time. Sam Harris has just left Patreon because of censorship. The whole point of Patreon was to help us support those who were not 'advertiser friendly'. Patreon are putting me in the position of ending all donations through them if I don't wish to support a company that abhors free speech. I want to support Extra History and hope Patreon will reinstate the closed accounts and clean up their act.
