We have A LOT of exciting news to share today, so strap in!

First things first: we are making some (mostly) small changes to our Extra History Patreon.

 • For $3+ patrons: We have added a monthly 15% discount off store merchandise. There will be a new code published here on Patreon every month starting October 1. (We are also working slowly on adding more Extra History merch, but that’s for another post--we just wanted you to know that we’re working on it!)
 • For $5+ patrons: The Q&A livestreams are now explicitly open to questions about all of our shows (not just Extra History), and will now run 60-90 minutes long, instead of a hard limit of 60 minutes, so that we have enough time and space to answer additional questions.
 • We have added a few new, totally experimental membership tiers above the $50+ level. We may end up modifying or removing these later, based on interest and feedback.

We have also added 2 new milestones:

$14.5k: Discord!

 • We will open a Discord server for patrons to hang out with each other and talk all things history--and about other Extra Credits shows too! (Will be available to $5+ patrons).

$16k: Extra Politics: Season 2

 • At this milestone, we will be confident in greenlighting production on the second season of Extra Politics.

“But wait, isn’t the $16k goal Extra Mythology? When are we getting those videos?”

It was! And, you helped us fulfill it.

Extra Mythology is launching (for reals!) in less than 2 weeks!

All of your financial support over the past four years has turned Extra History from just a couple of seemingly “out-of-place” videos on a game design channel, to being its own self-sustainable show with multiple artists, writers, and musicians bringing to life the history stories you pick out for us to cover!

Patreon memberships are directly how we are able to pay our Extra History staff a living wage to make this show full-time. Patreon revenue goes directly back into this specific show.

Currently, we are not making Extra Mythology full-time, but we would like to be able to by being able to afford to pay wages for full-time artist and writer support. So, we are launching a Patreon community dedicated to Extra Mythology next week, so that we can give this new show the same self-sustaining support Extra History has flourished on!

As current Extra History patrons, here’s what you should know:

 • Because you helped us achieve our original $16k goal of creating 4 episodes about Greek mythology, you will get early access to these specific 4 episodes we are airing next month, without needing to make a separate $3+ early-access pledge on the Extra Mythology Patreon. We appreciate your support, and thank you for sticking with us.

Keep an eye out for our formal public announcement of the Extra Mythology Patreon next week!

So now it's less 'Arcade Credits' than 'College Credits' :P

I believe the pun was always intended even with just the original show's name, but yes that is the direction we've been declaring our intentions to move in ever since Extra Sci Fi launched almost a year ago. (Not to take away from talking about games at all, but rather we are very passionate about games *because* of all the other things we've learned and are fascinated by! Like what was said way back in one of the earliest "how to be a game designer" episodes... if you want to be good at making games, you benefit tremendously from knowledge and experience in other things. Whoops, that was a long parenthetical. --Belinda)

In the last 30 days, you guys have sent 16 emails to my inbox with "announcements". Could you please tone it down? I already contribute to your videos. More emails will not drive my interest up. Thanks for listening.

ExtraCredits

Patreon automatically emails you every time we post, not every time we make an announcement--we've only made 3 legitimate "announcements" in the last 30 days, based on our posts which have been tagged as announcements. We have also been uploading a LOT of extra-Extra History videos this month which is the primary content our patrons usually want to know about, so that is highly atypical for sure. I'm very sure you can unsubscribe from emails that are automatically sent to you by Patreon. --Belinda

Extra Mythology isn't going to happen: that's just a myth :3. Seriously though: looking forward to it!

I can’t wait to hear how Zeus is linked to Robert Walpole

Extra Politics: Season 2 should focus on the very foundation of democracy, the voting system. There's a lot of voting reform initiative ongoing right now, Instant Runoff Voting just passed the vote in Maine, Approval Voting in Fargo, STAR Voting in Lane County Oregon, & MMP/DMP/STV in British Columbia are all going to vote later this year. It was only recently a voting referendum failed in the UK. How we vote decides what kind of democracy we have, and Extra Politics can do its part to help along all this positive change.

Jaw on the floor. Cannot wait for this, these episodes will probably cover more than my "social studies" classes ever did! 🐉🎭🕯️🌲

Aw, darn, I'm around the US federal poverty level, so rising to the $3/month level would leave me with too little money left to buy any of your merch. But that isn't really a change. Sorry. Wish it weren't true.

I have a good friend who is convinced that human society cycles through democracy and autocracy. I think he's reading too much into current events in US politics, a bit like mistaking weather for climate. But I don't know for sure. At least I'm willing to admit uncertainty. Is this a matter for extra politics?

I'm glad I can help. But know that I'm in many ways a living statistical outlier. I have multiple disabilities that offset my ability to make good on a genius IQ, have a bachelor's in economics, but am only working part-time as a janitor. Applying for jobs online is painfully time-consuming for me, and they pick someone else, every time. I've been unable to attract a mate, though married female friends say they don't understand why. Socially,, I'm generally clueless and awkward. So you may actually be very unlikely to attract viewers who are as poor as I am. Don't make any decisions based on my data points, alone.
