The Viking Expansion: From Constantinople to Canada will air later in 2018!

Around 1000 CE, Leif Erikson stepped onto the shores of North America. But his settlements there were only the furthest-flung outposts of the Norse expansion. Centuries of raiding, trading, and light invading had spread Northmen from Byzantium to Greenland—and left legacies we can still see today.

It's really too bad... Vikings are cool, but they've been done and re-done. Of course, they were always going to win, because they SELL. Alas... I really wish you would treat subjects a lot of people don't already know a lot about !

((*loud warhorn blowing*))

The Fire Piper

You would be surprised on some of the shenanigans the Vikings took part in that is not commonly known... The Muslim Viking cheese makers in Spain being one of my favorites.

IMO, Empire of Mali and History of Non-Euclidean Geometry both fall into that category, and that's just going off the most recent videos we've done. Since patrons do end up choosing the vast majority of the series we make, it's ultimately up to them to choose the lesser-known topics ;) Feel free to campaign in the community for your favorite topics (all of you in general, not just you specifically).

I voted for Captain Cook, but they were all good choices.

Woot! I finally got a topic I voted for. Only took three years.

arthur D. gonzalez-martin

Thank you for at least picking one of my topics, surprised that it beat out lewis and Clark

All we need now is the Legend of the Buddha, the Life of Karl Marx, and, fingers crossed, Scott of The Antarctic, and the Sheep shall Rejoice! [Personally I still say Cook Deserves a Series of his Own, though]

Jessica Cheeri

I heard about that on the NativLang channel but he didn't spend much time on it, mostly used it as a prompt to discuss the differences in the written languages. So I'd like to hear more about that one

Omg, I can't believe that it only took my second suggestion to get one of my ideas on this show!

I absolutely love the Viking Age, I'm thrilled. Don't forget Norse trade with Arabia and the Kievan Rus. The Helgo Buddha is a fascinating example of the extent of Norse trade.

Will you guys ever do anything on the three kingdom Era in China

Anonymous

Isn't Dynasty Warriors (extremely) loosely based off of that time period? They've done "the history behind the games" sponsored stuff before...

Anonymous

There's a Total War Game coming out this Autumn about the Three Kingdoms Period and I'm SOOOOO Hyped up about it!

Anonymous

What about (even if it's not straight history) : the different philosophical schools / Philosophists - from Confucius to Kant ? ;)

Anonymous

Dynasty Warriors is based on a book, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which was sort of a period drama written in the 1300s.

A series on the Armenian genocide would be interesting too, it's a topic I always hear about in passing but never had the time to research personally.

Dynasty Warriors is loosely based on the "Romance of the three Kingdoms" which in itself is very loosely based on real facts, Some of the real events in the Romance are blown out of proportions while others never happened. And given how the communist party in china during the "cultural revolution" destroyed a lot of ancient records of the period any research into that particular topic is pretty difficult. Throw in how th chinese government reacts to people not "truthfully" (read here: not putting them in the best light) representingtheir history... yeah they banned some games and movies for reasons like "doesn't represent chinese values" like that movie about the evacuation at Dunkirk.
