I went to go check it out (since I was without computer when this was posted) and it's asking for me to buy a ticket. Is this intentional or something that Spreecast did "because"?

It's not intentional; we want it to be free for you to watch whenever you have time. So far, although Spreecast has some nice features, they've locked so many things behind a paywall since they started to monetize that we're going to switch for Google Hangouts for the next one and see how that goes. Sorry you couldn't get to this one. :(

Usually we decide fairly close to the time, although this month we may have to move up the decision-time what with Christmas breaks and all. I'll keep you folks posted!
