Caught between a rock and a hard place, Austrian Foreign Minister Leopold Berchtold makes a desperate decision to declare war. Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany and Czar Nicholas II of Russia call upon their family ties to each other in a last ditch effort to avert the war, but their previous inattention has left their prime ministers Bethmann-Hollweg and Sazonov in impossible positions. With their forces mobilized, unable to back down, Russia must accept Germany's declaration of war from ambassador Pourtalès - and as our series ends, the Seminal Catastrophe begins. ___________ Want to learn more about World War I? I would like to say how much I like the animations in this series. Although its pretty simple stick-figuresque, it is always very apt and engaging and often downright hilarious.

I think it's worth mentioning Dan Carlin's Hardcore history podcast. He recently did a series on The Great War, including it's leadup and even the mind process behind German command in the early days of the war. Highly recommend anyone interested in the topic to check him out, the episodes are titled "Blueprint for Armageddon" http://www.dancarlin.com/product/hardcore-history-50-blueprint-for-armageddon-i/

Tres, tres fantastique.

This has been a work of art. Innovations in storytelling nowadays are moving forward so fast we are unable to pay due homage to pieces of work so well deserving to be featured in a museum. The silver lining is that we can be sure it will be presented where it most deserves and needs: schools all around the world. And children of today will understand the past and the lessons it carries in this engaging, beautiful and fun way.

I've learned about Dan Carlin's work from some comment over at the first Extra History series, and I enjoyed very much. Specially the Genghis Khan series. Entusiasts of "history telling" as we all here are will surely enjoy this.

I think it should be very successful. I learned a lot just by watching it.

It's surprising how YouTube shows can get across a much fuller, clearer picture of history than any BBC, History Channel, Discovery etc... program I've seen to date (and probably with a significantly smaller budget). Truly brilliant work guys. Also loved the closing song :D nice touch

I'll admit, the end of what would be a bloody beginning was the clincher for me to be a Patreon. The Punic Wars were fascinating, but WW1 more so, perhaps because my great-granddad would have been DAMN close to the insanity over in the UK. (Unsure if he served, but I'm sure granddad did in WW2. "Enigma" code cracking team. I'm a proud college attended third gen tech head myself.) Sorry, bit much to post. Long story short: The end made me weep for the poor bastards slain simply following orders due to all of this insanity.

Will Extra Credits mostly cover just topics that includes a war? Not that I mind, would just be cool to learn what happened in the past aside from wars.

It's ultimately up to what our patrons vote on, and periods of war (or that involve war) do tend to be more "sexy," but we are going to make an effort to see that other types of history do get coverage on the show at some point.
