Sneak Peak: Mac OS 7.6 Installation Sensation (Everything Breaks) (Patreon)
Content
Hey guys!
So, today was one of those days where The Curse is relentless. I didn't call him out too much in this episode (because I hate pointing fingers) but dang it… he was brutal. I was planning for this to be a simple upgrade (from 7.1 to 7.6) but everything that could've gone wrong… did! There's some preview pics below. There's also some SPOILERS, but that section will proceed with a warning. Scroll down at your down discretion.
Side note: more Apple IIe Enhanced sneak peeks are coming soon, too ; )
To attempt a hard disk reformat, I need to boot externally. ClubMac to the rescue!
This Mac OS 7.6 CD came with a Performa. It was left inside an AppleCD 300 caddy, which I received from eBay.
WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW
The first issue was an incompatible disc. I tried using a Performa 7.6 CD for the Macintosh TV. Some utilities worked, but the installer ultimately gave me an error on startup.
The second issue was disk space. For some reason, the hard disk in this computer is split up among four 10-16 MB partitions. WHY?! And for another reason… no Drive Setup utility would launch on this computer. The error messages were super-generic and useless.
The third issue was a cracked CD. I had a Macintosh TV system software CD, and I guessed it may have a utility that would work. However, I have no way of checking now because the CD was cracked. (I think one of the asylum guards is screwing with me because I'm very careful… usually).
The fourth issue was… the Macintosh stopped turning on. This ticked me off. The previous owner said he had issues with this board, but I had no problem getting it to run. However, I had to do a hard shutdown while stuck at a "System Not Found" screen, and now the thing won't turn on. I now feel stupid because I think I could've done a Command-Control-Power shortcut to reboot the computer more safely. Long story short, the board may have to be recapped or replaced. Hopefully it's not the power supply that is bad.
