Riko bowing to someone and her hair or rather her head this time hitting something will never not be cute and funny. It doesn't get confirmed more directly but Marulk is indeed male.

That's not exactly the case, Ozen was the one who had Marulk dress and behave as a girl, at least initially.

I dislike that feminine boys in media, in the west is immediately labeled as trans. The ladyboys (kathoeys) of Thailand rarely identify as trans, and feminine men who likes to dress up is also an enigma for the west unless they're trans. Sometimes characters are confirmed as trans, but many people in Japan and characters in manga/anime does not want to transition or even identify as the oposite gender, despite how they dress or act. The harsh split between genders is more distinct in the west, and to just assume the world works like where you're from is very American..... Having said that.... You said it was a conclusion, and not a fact, so this isn't really a criticism of you..... I just wanted to rant my frustrations. Who knows. You might be right about them being trans.... Oh. And tomboys get the same treatment the other way. It's like some believe they shouldn't exist unless they clearly identify and act/dress as one of the 2 standard genders.... I'm never gonna stop if I don't stop now. Identify how you want, but god forbid you try to live without other people claiming you have to belong to a group. I. F*ck.... They tried to force freaking ROSEBOYS as a replacement identity, but it's ignored by most. Yet it's the label they apparently go under in the LGBT+ group. Apparently Femboy was wrong some how. I think Femman would have been taken better than being force labeled a pretty plant. That and many other things discussed, invented and pushed on people. Usually by a few on tumblr, and spread and made popular by "allies" that don't even identify with the labels! I didn't stop..... why

@regulargrayzone To call the politics of gender in the modern age "complicated" would be a dramatic understatement. There are a lot of limiting models of gender that are damaging for sure, and I definitely hold space in my expectations for a wide landscape of gender fluidity. That being said, when I wrote that the implication I drew was that Marulk was trans, it was just that, the implication I drew based on very little info. I haven't yet seen much more of Marulk than is shown in this season, so my drawing that implication possibly says more about me than the text of the series. Not necessarily in argument to your statement but I have also noticed the opposite in Japanese media. I am by no means an expert on the subject of gender in Japanese culture but I have seen an emphasis against the acceptance of trans characters and bias toward "traps" (here meaning specifically characters that identify as men but dress as women to seduce other men) which has been used as a stereotype to deny the existence of trans women. Bigotry exists on both sides and the bigotry isn't ok in either way. Everyone should be able to be who they are.
