I think the voice acting in this show is very good. It is difficult to read the subtitles while watching the video. However, I think the problem is that not only in this show, but also in the English dubbed version, the voice actors' voices are not very distinctive. In Japan, the qualities required of voice actors are not a good voice but a distinctive voice. In the Japanese version, Edward Elric is voiced by Hanji Zoe.

thank god for the dub, one of the best dubs for sure Edit: holy shit i cried at the "hey siri, whats alchemy" LOL you're awesome also don't worry, this story is fucking amazing and will fill you in on all your questions, its a very well defined system in place, but the definitions get told as the story goes on

liam joyce

Good Choice with dub some people might complain but i see this anime as the dub being superior to the sub and also everything will be explained you are right this is a weird first episode

Found this btw maybe it will help Alchemy Definition: Simply put, Alchemy is the science and art of liberating something from its fixed physical properties. By fixed, I’m referring to something with finite properties. And this brings us to our first important, alchemical distinction. In the material, physical world in which we spend the vast majority of our lives, nothing is fixed. All matter is in a constant state of flux. Everything is becoming, nothing is being. Contemporary science would even argue that the barriers between material objects are flimsy at best. Where does your body end and the chair you’re sitting on begin? Turns out, that’s a trickier question to answer than it may seem at first glance. By extension, this means that the physical laws we believe to govern the cosmos are also ever-shifting. Because all of the universe is in a constant state of change, so must our understanding of it be continually evolving.

Honestly you do a very good job at paying attention and this show will really explain everything as you go along so ur chillin. Just take ur time, enjoy it and keep doing what ur doing. Imo this is right there with AOT as of the best animes ever.

TheMischievousWolf

The first episode is kinda of a filler/introduction episode, things will make more in the next episodes. This was a fun reaction tho, super excited for this one!

TheMischievousWolf

Also Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood follows the manga, whereas FMA strays away from the source material and has a lot differences in the story.

To explain a few things real quick. A simple way to look at alchemy is taking matter and breaking it down into it's base parts and reforming them into something else. So the freezing alchemist turns water into steam and ice because water, steam, and ice all have the same base elements (hydrogen and oxygen) but it's different chemical reactions that form those 3 things. Transmutation is simply the act of changing matter from one form to another. So when the freezing alchemist was changing water into steam and ice he was transmuting it. Alchemists typically can only transmute things via transmutation circles. You may have noticed that Roy's gloves and Armstrong's gauntlets had designs on them. Those designs are transmutation circles. As long as they are wearing those items they can perform alchemy on the go without having to take the time to draw a transmutation circle. Edward is an outlier as he does not need a transmutation circle to perform alchemy. The reason for that will eventually be explained. You said that this episode didn't feel like a first episode. That's because it kind of isn't. The original Fullmetal Alchemist anime was made when the manga hadn't been completed yet. The anime caught up to the manga and ended up diverging from it as a result. So it's not a faithful adaptation. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is basically a reboot that actually fully follows the manga. So the pacing of this episode is a little weird because it kind of assumes the audience already knows the basics of the story. But you don't need to worry about that because everything will still be explained and you'll get all the backstory and explanations as to how everything works.

Also the music for FMAB is great. The opening song is "Again" by YUI and it's one of my absolute favorite opening themes of all time.

Awesome some dub action let's go!

Damn, I dont blame you joey, so dont take this to heart, I just feel like I got to say this.. I prefer full metal in sub and code geass in dub. I have just completely lost the battle with the language of these reactions and ive taken the L. I don't blame joey, I don't blame the watchers, I blame myself for apparently having horrible taste because apparently everybody else feels the exact opposite.. I take the L and they're both some pretty big L's for me, but as I said, I blame myself. Imma go cry in a corner now....

The anime will explain what an alchemist is a lot, and Alchemy in general as well, and the dub is really good too, but as I said I am a sub watcher in my purest, the only animes I actually prefer dub is Code Geass, Naruto, and Yu Yu Hakusho, and I completely understand why somebody would say the naruto sub is better, but Ive been watching Naruto since before I knew how to read. So i watched dub LMAO

Anonymous

brother hood is a retelling of the original full metal alchemist, and they made this anime kinda assuming all the watchers had already seen the original, thats why the episode doesnt feel like a first episode and thats why they didnt show them trying to save their mom in the beginning. So you 100% did the right thing by reading the description.

Anonymous

Damn the description was written so well, I woulda just told you the story is about two bros tryna find a rock

Anonymous

Also Armstrong's VA is the same as All Might you were right :D

bluerum

nah Dub viewers are awfully loud in the comment section. u good king

Lijnaito2021 !

For good reason we know how great this dub is. It's the best of you'll ever hear besides dragon Ball Z FUNimation

KP

shouldn't we have started on full metal alchemist (2003)?

liam joyce

That was never finished and it was pretty bad this was a remake and completes the whole story

When you google a word and have to subsequently google all the words in the results... XD

This show alongside Death Note are probably the best starter anime for new people trying to get into the anime genre I would say. With that said, this show does tend to have quite strange whiplashes of tone change. From super serious to super goofie and that is one of my biggest gripes with it. Anyway, it’s still one of the best shows ever with a great ending. Enjoy. Also, CODE GEASS. “Ge” as in “gimme” and ass, as in ass lmao. So Giass basically is how you say it.

Just to let you know a few things. Alchemy is the art of transforming something into something else. Like trying to turn bronze into gold. Alchemists in the show can transform things into weapons or other useful items. Also, without spoiling anything, the most famous “führer” is Adolf Hitler. Yeah. The same one from World War 2. Here in the show, there’s another Führer, Führer Bradley. Führer means ruler or leader like king or emperor.

kisa1243

@liam Joyce 2003 was finished with the movie The conqueror of Shambala. Great movie too my favorite
