Liam, I agree with you, because sorry for taking it to the extreme but vanquishing a demon-baby is a way easier than vanquishing a formed demon, so they could go around vanquishing demon-babies now? That would be real sick. You never know. That’s just it. They gave a chance to Cole so in theory a different outcome had been possible, it’s everyone’s choice, whatever they are born, they shouldn’t be punished just in case. And true, some humans can be worse than monsters. Great reaction!

I find this episode to be a refreshing tackling of the issue of demonic morality. Up till now it's mostly been black and white 'demons are bad', without regard to free will unless you have a soul like Cole. There was the good warlock episode in S1, but even then he had a human mother. The most intriguing part of that episode is when his full warlock brother sacrificed himself to save him. But the argument could be made, based on how warlocks were introduced, that warlocks are in fact human witches who have turned to evil, which would mean again that his soul is what gave him the choice. And even here, the kid's father is human. But the key is that they debate vanquishing the baby before they know it's not full demon. The nature vs nurture debate is addressed. The idea that full demons are born just naturally inclined to evil never sat well with me.
