I love this episode for how much it shows us a more vulnerable side of Dean. A number of times when I've done partial rewatches, I've started with it.

"Give Dean a hug" - I volunteer! He's so adorable in this episode. I'm also so used to Jensen in his 40s and he looks like such a baby in this episode! He reminds me of his time in Smallville... (he was on it the year before he started SPN). Dean screaming when the plane is going down has turned into a meme lol. I'm glad you're enjoying the show. Yeah, the basis of the show was to do a horror movie once a week. Eric Kripke had his idea of what he wanted the show to be and he does it well. Supernatural season 1 reminds me of Buffy season 1 in a way. The show is finding its feet, lots of MOTW. Supernatural suffered from the same lack of budget as Doctor Who - in fact it had a lot lower budget than Doctor Who in its first season! Jensen and Jared weren't getting paid much and they lived together at the time, so they lived and worked together. It probably helped to create their great friendship now. At the end of each season the show has a gag reel that a lot of people react to.
