remember what her friend said though.....you can't make a wish for yourself.......and anya saying she was rusty.

Xander can just get effed in this episode. Yes he has a right to feel upset at seeing Anya and Spike together, but that's all he has a right to. He knew, for months and months in advance, that he didn't want to go ahead with the wedding, that things were moving too fast, and he said nothing, instead he walked out on Anya on their wedding day, and left her broken and humiliated at the altar. Whether he intended to end the relationship entirely or not is a moot point, at this point in time Anya is clearly not read for, nor interested in, a reconcilliation of any kind - ergo the relationship is technically finished & Xander has absolutely no say in who she decides to sleep with, and zero right to throw slings and barbs at her the way he did. And with Anya being a vengeance demon again, and initially on the war path with Xander, she was so hell bent on exacting revenge that she may very well have eventually found a way to get round the whole 'vengeance demons can't exact vengeance on their own behalf' thing if it hadn't been for Spike providing her with what she needed at that moment, a space to vent, comfort and solace.

And yes, Anya is a vengeance demon again, so that was her demon face we saw in this episode. The reason her wish didn't work is, as Halfrek pointed out, is that a vengeance demon can't exact retribution on their own behalf, someone else has to make the wish (hence her trying to get, or trick, Buffy, Dawn, Willow and Tara into wishing something bad on Xander.

Agreed. Xander is absolutely vile here. If I'd done to someone I loved what Xander just did to Anya, I'd be happy for any moment of comfort they were able to find. Yes, it would hurt seeing it, and I'd want to go and have a stuff whisky and cry on a friend's shoulder, but I wouldn't go and try and make my pain their problem. Ugh.

Two things I wish (!) had happened in this episode that we didn't get: 1) Spike acknowledging Halfrek's presence in the Magic Box. A glance, a dirty look, whatever, anything but the NOTHING we got. 2) Spike acknowledging that Anya is a demon again. He definitely got close enough to tell she wasn't human (unless he was really that drunk?). Just a "do the Scoobies know?" or a "I won't tell them" when he's on his way out the door would have sufficed. And speaking of Once More with Feeling references...did you see what's hanging on the back of the door of Willow's bedroom in the final scene?

This episode only reminds how I don’t really like Xander that much. His possessive attitude in early seasons over Buffy dating Angel was over the line for me and watching when older I liked it even less. Then came this when he dares to try and make Anya feel bad. Yes, I’m sure that was painful to see, but she owed him nothing at that point. He humiliated her in a disgusting way and she has every way to do whatever she likes. Plus, he then also acts wounded by Buffy sleeping with Spike as if she’s an ex too. It’s all very messed up.
