This one is definitely uncomfortable, but I like it the same way I like "The Shining"--the complete horror of having someone taken over not by using him as a puppet, but by uncovering the absolute worst impulses that might actually be lurking inside. Plus, "vicious bitch" Lila coming through in the end but not stopping to have a meaningful chat about it was a great character beat.

Yeah... to describe this episode as a "rough one" would be a massive understatement.

It's a very well written episode, as you said. And the end scene, I cried once again rewatching it. I usually skip it when I'm not watching along with someone, for obvious reasons. It's a somehow fantastic yet horrible episode.

I really like this episode, but I have no intention of rewatching it. It’s just rough.

It's interesting that they put several moments of patronizing sexism from our male characters early in the episode, before they were influenced by Billy. Angel resisting teaching Cordelia to actually fight. Angel and Wesley trying to hide the graphic crime scene images from Cordelia and Fred. This episode was definitely not the first time Cordelia and Fred have been treated that way–it actually kind of drives me insane on a semi-regular basis–but it was cranked up a couple notches in this episode and that must have been intentional. I'm not positive what the show is trying to say; more likely than not, it's intentionally ambiguous.
