This is such a great episode and I love the misdirection with Fred’s parents. When Fred was describing the rest of the team to her parents, it reminded me of the spell Willow cast in the Buffy episode Primeval (S4E21). Comparing the Scoobies to A.I., I love how both Xander and Cordy are the hearts of each team, while Giles and Wesley are the brains.

Ah, the episode in which Cordy and Wes do the best Bangel scene EVER.

I think Fred's parents were referring to the detectives they hired when they commented if they should "call them in." They mentioned it early in the episode. They felt they were being duped by the gang because they felt Angel's gang was giving them the runaround. I just realized this during your reaction haha.

To me, it is clear that Fred's parents referenced the police when they talked about "bringing them in sooner than expected." Cause later, Fred's father is like "I can't believe we were about to call the police on a bunch of superheroes." But yes, this episode is very good and the mislead was well executed. I love Fred's parents and it was nice to get a little bit about Wesley's psychology about his relationship with his own parents. Of course, this had been referenced before, its just nice to get the reminder and reminding us why Wesley has such self-worth issues.

They make fun of the newest Alien movie saying that it was boring and put them to sleep. The movie they were talking about was Alien Resurrection, a movie written by Joss Whedon

Yes, the police line was easy to miss and maybe the episode tried a little too hard to make her parents seem extra shady, but that is 100% what they were talking about. They were just as suspicious of our gang as the gang was of them and if you view things from their perspective it makes perfect sense, Angel Investigations was acting just as shady and secretive. The one thing I used to think was still weird was that Lorne told her to keep running, totally playing into the red herring, even though he should have known that her parents were just her parents, but I think that was actually just Lorne projecting his own family issues onto her, which does make sense.
