Great reaction Liam and I agree about this episode and how creative it is in exploring some difficult issues. That’s something Buffy is able to do throughout and I don’t think it gets enough credit for that in the tv world. Season 5 is certainly a crazy ride. Dracula feels an eternity ago right?! Already looking forward to your reaction to the finale.

100th episode here we come! You need to rewatch the recap at the beginning of next episode. This was also the last episode to air on its original network as it got cancelled, then UPN picked it up.

It wasn't cancelled per se, the contract for the series was up and UPN swooped in and offered a lot more for the show than the WB was willing to pay to renew it. That started a programming war between the networks where they counter programmed one another and gutted the ratings for a couple of their biggest shows. Oddly enough the two networks would eventually put their differences aside and combine to create the CW network to replace UPN and WB.

I remember SMG making a statement saying if it did leave WB, she would quit only to backtrack when she was quietly reminded she was under contract and would be sued if she went ahead with it. WB was so sure Joss would stay that they thought they had the upper hand but when UPN offered the deal which included giving the OK to allow for more mature content, it was all over.
