Little piece of trivia about this one - right before it was supposed to air, there was a school shooting. So, WB pulled the episode and it didn't air until that summer after the season was over.

Yes, it was the Columbine shooting. SMG actually pushed to have the episode still air because she thought the message at the end could be helpful to share, which I can understand, but the network thought it was just too soon and would be in poor taste, so they pulled the episode. I think it was right to delay it.

This episode handled school shootings pretty much perfectly imo. Actually having Jonathan be a school shooter I think would have been in poor taste. But the way they did it, they were able to discuss mass murder without fetishizing it, and show that the kind of pain Jonathan is in is more likely to result in suicide than in homicide. And having the killer be comic relief prevents the episode from unintentionally inspiring violence.
