Hopefully the sound isn't too much of an issue (it kinda becomes noticable in the thoughts section ig, but I think an update played havoc with my settings)

This is a great exploration of how it feels to be subjected to a horrible event you don't understand, and also of how it doesn't have to stop you from living your life. That being said, I do personally still want an explanation at some point. Everything has to make sense, even if we don't get to find out how. Closest I can come up with 10 minutes after the fact is: that wasn't actually Old Ruby; it was a faerie entity that responds to the breaking of its circles by putting the person responsible through a lifelong ideal then giving them the chance to go back and undo the breaking. I don't think there's any explanation of 'why did the things it was saying cause everyone in her life, even family and professional phenomena investigators, to abandon her?' that would satisfy me. The only thing that does satisfy me is that, like the writers intended for the audience, the horror was the point for Ruby too: the entity inflicted a nightmare on her, drawn from her own fears: in this case, fear of abandonment. The entity wanted her to feel horrified and afraid, to motivate her to undo the breaking of the circle.
