And the models out of their boxes and set up. (This is the link to get one!) Some observations:
- They are really well modeled. I'm impressed by the range of motion, and particularly the detailing on the torso which is a place where a lot of models fail.
- Because they are Japanese, the base you set them up on is also a case for all their accessories. And their accessories are adorable and include two weapons (a gun and sword) and a variety of electronic devices (smartphone, flip phone, tablet with tiny stylus, and laptop that opens and closes).
- They also come with ten different hand positions that you can switch out, but doing this is kind of difficult and hard to manage if you have big fingers and if you're not careful you can rip the hands. (Be careful.)
- The stands are a little finicky. I wish they were a little stiffer. But they're serviceable, and you can manipulate them in many odd ways.
- They come with instructions! But the instructions are Japanese. But Google Translate's photo function actually translates them! But the translation is questionable.
- The instructions suggest that you pose and photograph the pose and then draw from the photograph. I actually think that works pretty well because it forces you to try to compose the drawing before you start putting it on paper.
But really, the end proof in the pudding is that even this quick photo that I snapped to talk about them has made me think, 'huh, that's a nice pose, I should draw that.' Which is not something I ever think with the wooden models I've had in the past. So, net win! I am glad I bought these.
They're having a flash sale now: each one's $50 (regular price is $120), with free shipping. The shipping takes a LONG time. Don't be surprised if it seems "late."
Thanks for the heads-up, Starshadow! ❤️
