Wait, wait, why did the pronunciation of 'leftenant' automatically make it fanfiction? That's how the British pronounce lieutenant and it's a rule somewhere that every fantasy everywhere have chartacters that speak with cod British or Scottish accent, isn't it???

My guess is that because Conor said "left" in his pronunciation, it tipped Mike off that the fanfic writer spelled that phonetically. Conor, being American, would have naturally pronounced "lieutenant" the way Mike is more accustomed to hearing it, if Conor had been reading the word as it's actually spelled.
