The evidence:

  • Opens with the hero coming awake on a table after having been sprung by a mysterious benefactor from a suspended  animation prison, in which he served time after having being framed for murder.
  • There are pedramps, sky cars, lucite and plas galore!
  • The hero gets hired as a private detective, it has a noir tone. He keeps running afoul of the actual police
  • He puts on another guy's brain box which the guy uses to "visit" his dead daughter
  • There are constant ads for prostitutes and tek type escapism

Now I've only seen the first episode so when I get to those featuring Maw, Globo and Warbride I'll report back.

Your thoughts?

The Altered Carbon books are MUCH better than Tekwar... I just watched the Tekwar movie with a fellow fan of the Altered Carbon books, and I couldn't resist saying to the awakening Cardigan, "You're no Takeshi Kovachs!"

For what it's worth, Altered Carbon's style of "virtual incarceration" seems like it'd have more of an impact that the Rip Van Winkle method in TekWar. I too saw a lot of similarities and while it's not much of a race to be better than TekWar, it is.
