LegendKeeper is now free to try; welcome to open beta! (Patreon)
Content
Heyo! Big changes today! The LegendKeeper closed beta has concluded, and the open beta has begun! (If you are a patron or former patron reading this; you don't need to do anything right now. We will provide specific instructions for migrating from Patreon in the near future.)
For the last 3 years, LegendKeeper has evolved from a small side-project into a pile of creative tools for Game Masters and Worldbuilders. Our journey so far has been made possible by the generous support of you all, our Patreon subscribers.
Today we are making it easier for anyone to give LegendKeeper a try. New users can sign up directly from our home page and can use LK with a 14-day trial. After their trial, they can choose to subscribe to keep creating their own stuff, or continue using LK for free as a guest in other people's projects.
Business Model
Here's what we arrived at in regards to our business model. (Remember, none of this applies to Patrons or people invited by Patrons yet-- just to new users as of today. We'll figure out migration in the next few weeks.)
* Participating in a project owned by someone else is always free. Players, collaborators, etc, don't need to subscribe.
* To create and edit projects, the owner of the project needs a subscription. If a project owner doesn't have a subscription, the project becomes read-only. You also can't create new projects without a sub.
* You can cancel or pause your subscription at any time.
* Besides that, subscriptions come with unlimited projects, unlimited collaborators, and unlimited storage. You can find our official pricing page here. We wanted our offering to be as simple as possible; we find many subscription models are just too complex.
We settled on $9 a month and $90 a year for pricing. Our legacy $5 patrons will have access to our price guarantee, but again, you don't need to do anything yet. Details forthcoming.
What's next?
First, surviving open beta launch 😅. This is a big, nerve-wracking change. Lots to do and monitor and support. After that, we'll turn our sights to short and medium-term priorities, like the editor, sharing, etc.
Seriously, this is a mega-milestone. I can't believe a Reddit post in September of 2018 changed my life this way... I just want to send you my utmost gratitude. I'm hoping that opening up free trials will help us grow the business in a way so that we can dedicate even more effort to improving the product and bringing you the best world-building tools on the planet.
As always, hit us up with any questions or concerns. We expect lots of feedback on this change!
Happy worldbuilding,
Braden and the LK Team
