I have been wanting to make a watchtower location for a while now and recently someone suggested painting the location of one of the random encounters in Barovia, specifically the will-o-wisps that lead you to an old tower infested with zombies. I have recently used a watchtower in my game as a critical and strategic military position that has been fought over by the humans and hobgoblins. They have taken it back and forth from one another as it signifies who controls the valley it looks over. I enjoy set pieces like this that can fit into many games, so I hope this one provides some inspiration. And of course, I also did a night version of this one, which I have been doing for all the locations recently, that you can access through the $2 or $4 tiers.

I've also started working towards the James' RPG Art website catalogue, making it waaaaaay easier for you to browse and download the files for your tier, so stay tuned for that and thank you for the continued support, I couldn't do this without you all!

I like that you almost have to search for the steps leading up to the doorway. Adds to the mystery.

2023-03-30 07:54:28 The abandoned look is stellar. This makes me think back to an old open-world computer RPG where you can find this old tower in the woods that apparently no other purpose other than to be intriguing. There are flying snakes nearby, which don't pose much of a threat, but seem to be the only location they exist. Inside, there's nothing but a pile of square shields (aka door shields) stacked neatly on each other. Years later I read a fantasy novel that described a very similar tower, nearby to a battle with a monstrously huge snake. As the heroes gain the upper hand, the snake unfurls gigantic wings & hovers just above the ground, & ends up mortally wounding one protagonist before finally being slain. Inside the tower is a neatly stacked pile of door shields, with no other explanation. The novel is The Endless Knot by Stephen R Lawhead.
