I just finished my tuning for the Free Pro 2 and I think it sounds really amazing, much better than anything else I did before, I needed some further days to let it settle and let my ears recover. After sleep you start hearing new issues that somehow got hidden the day before, therefore I took some time and tried to optimise my settings to get decent results over all my units, although they all sound slightly different due to some sample variation, I could live with any of them with this single setting, which I already updated here. I am currently in the process of re-measuring them all again and then start my work on all further resonance frequencies which will be the toughest part, as I am still not sure about the outcome. I am planning the following tunings, there is about 1mm ear canal length difference between all of them (calculated by Lambda * f = c):

8400

8000

7650

7300

7000

6750

6500

6250

6000

5800

5600

5450

5300

I also had to correct my own tuning frequency down to 6000Hz as it's obviously slowly creeping down again. It's been more than 1 month since my last ear cleaning and when checking it the last days I could track down 6000Hz more or less as my current frequency. I prepared some measurements with the current tuning and you can see that it changed again a bit ompared to before. I made different 3 measurements trying to insert it exactly the same, but you can still see lots of variation above 12khz which is hard to control and predict. A slightly deeper insertion or more shallow can have a big impact on the the upper treble timbre, which you can easily notice on your own if you try to push it slightly deeper or don't insert it too deep:

I got Crinacle's HD600 measuerment and although they are not 1:1 comparable due to different measuring rigs etc, you can notice that the overall tendency is similar, which was also my goal: a kind of neutral HD600 like sound just smoother with better details and bass:

The dips visible from the HD600 measurement are effects of the HRTFs from his artificial pinna. These will of course vary depending on the ear-shape, but they are necessary to make the sound appear "natural". This is what I tried to approximate a bit by creating my tuning, thus the final measurement of my current tuning my appear a bit strange especially compared to the Harman target, but you actually need to simulate the effects of the outer ear to at least some degree in order to get some realism to the sound as if you were listening to some speakers in front of you and not to "something" still taking the individual ear canal resonances into account. My current result is still not 100% perfect but better than anything else I tried. To improve even more I would need to invest into some decent studio monitors maybe even a completely new measuring rig in order to analyse this more in detail, some Chinese replica like this would cost around 1000€ but then I may be "baking" too much of its HRTFs into the final response.

I have not enough resources for all this and not enough funds to really take this all seriously. I would need way more supporters that would allow me to invest more time and money into all this. Right now I am just fooling around to be honest, I would need to check some random HRTFs and maybe create an average of them and use this as basics for my further tuning work. In this case I was simply relying on my own ear. It's actually a real pain in the ass to tune an IEM correctly and make it sound realistic and make it sound the same for different ear canals, and I am somehow shocked that there doesn't seem to be any real progress with this, instead everyone is trying to tune towards some line like that from Harman.
