How loud do you usually listen to music over headphones? (Patreon)
Content
I was wondering how loud all of you usually listen to music when using headphones? From my experience I usually tend to listen at much higher levels over headphones than what I would over a speaker but I still have the impression as I was rather listening at lower levels than many others.
As we have lots of Earfun Free Pro OE users here we can at least create comparable results (although I think that even 2 Earfun Free Pros can differ slightly in loudness even when set to the same volume level) by listening to the same recording from the same source and with the same earphone.
I am not sure how exact the loudness level can be transformed over to Android but on iOS volume control is synced between the Earfun Free Pro and the iPhone/iPad, thus only 16 distinct volume steps are available.
When I worked on the tuning back then I was listening to lots of tunes as shown in my playlist: https://music.apple.com/at/playlist/earfun-free-pro-oluv-s-audiophile-collection-1/pl.u-11zB9Koc8zoBp5
The volume level for the 1st song was mostly as shown in the screenshot. This would mean it’s the 9th step, sometimes I even prefer the 8th step if I really listen for longer than 1 hour, but I would rarely turn volume higher than step 10 with this particular song.
Now it would be really interesting how loud all of you usually listen as this would also affect the tuning and how you perceive it at higher or lower levels.
If you listen louder than me you will perceive the sound definitely bassy and harsh, while if you rather listen at lower levels than me, you can perceive the sound as too basslight, lacking detail at the same time.
I am curious about this and would welcome all to share their “values” because I need some reference points for future how to deal with this if I happen to tune some other product once again.
Thanks!
PS: thanks for all contributions so far but please keep in mind that most my YouTube recordings should be also played back at step 9-10 with the Earfun Free Pro to get more or less a comparable loudness of what I was hearing in real life. My last video of the Onyx Studio 7 sounds more or less “correct” when I set volume to 9, 10 is already too loud, something in between these 2 should be spot on.
Unfortunately I cannot set the gain for all my videos equally depending on the loudness of the recorded content. Therefore this is just a rough guide. But at volume 9-10 you should get a quite realistic representation of the real sound I heard.
