I was asked to post my personal EQ settings for the Sony WF-1000XM3. To be honest I haven’t used it anymore since I started working on the Earfun, but the most important factor for me to improve the sound was swapping tips. I get better results with the Sony MH1 tips, probably due to a more shallow insertion, as the MH1 tips are longer overall, but this changes the treble response for the better, at least for me. With the original WF-1000XM3 tips I get some ringing with treble which sounds annoying to me.

I also adjust the sound a bit through the Sony headphones app as the default tuning is slightly too boomy and harsh to me. I posted 2 different settings, first is for ambient sound mode or normal mode as both these modes sound the same. I personally find the ANC setting to sound worse, although others may tend to differ, but for me the ANC mode needs stronger EQ adjustment as seen in the second image. Both modes still won’t sound the same but at least the ANC mode becomes acceptable to me like that.

It’s still a decent sounding IEM but I hate the fact that it always starts with ANC as default after turn on while I prefer the sound without ANC and need to switch EQs all the time also meanwhile I simply prefer my tuned Earfun version thus I don’t use the Sony anymore as it’s much bigger and more cumbersome to handle, I have issues putting on masks as the Sony sticks out too much and gets stuck with mask etc.

I haven’t done any measurements yet but will try to perform some before giving the Sony away to someone.

Thanks for the insights Oluv, this is what's great about patreon. We people who share passion in music can actually talk more personally and help each other without distractions from toxic people as we've seen so many times on sites like youtube. I am excited to try this out!

The more I listening music with this headphone, the more more I feel that I shouldn't buy it for listening to music. Without possibility to customize the EQ with LDAC enabled, It's quite difficult to bring a decent sound out of this headphone. With the SBC or AAC codec activated, the quality of the treble is very average. Fortunately they left us the port jack, it's the only way I get to have a qualitative sound without further adjustment. Earfun Free Pro OE in coming.
