First of all: A Happy new year to all my Patrons!

I was just about to release my after midnight listening session for the Airpods Max I shot last night when I got a copyright claim blocking the whole video worldwide because of a track from Donald Fagen I used. I cut out the affected part but the video is still being processed by Youtube and I am not sure when it will be finished. I could edit and re-encode the video again but this would also take a whole day until it's finally uploaded, therefore I simply let Youtube do the work and publish it when it's done.

But as the comparison against the Drop Panda will be missing within the video, because this was the part where I played the affected song, I will simply upload the missing audio-file here.

I am starting to listen with the Airpods Max and then swap to the Drop Panda and I think from here you should clearly hear which one is playing... I would say that the Drop Panda is indeed overpriced for 399$ as opposed to the 550$ Airpods Max which are at least great sounding...

What I can offer you is to upload the entire listening part as audio-file, you should know anyhow which headphone is playing as I am mostly naming the headphone I am putting on. If you can wait for the video, then I will just post this one as soon as it's ready.

See you next year haha!

i think "max" it's better but not marginally and also as all apple products very overpriced!!! drop panda is not bad but not as good as max is!!! (strictly my personal opinion). both of them are overpriced and wait dear oluv to suggest us a better than those headphones item which dont exceeds 150 euros, as Etymotic is his "holy grail of in-ears" and i think he's totally right!!! I love my er3xrs and if i was a "millionaire" i would buy the er4xrs or a better Etymotic in general!!! have a great 2021 and don't forget to watch and hear Jean Michel Jarre's new years eve concert at Notre Dam!!!

it's definitely not overpriced if you take the whole package under account. Build quality, materials, quality of ANC and the transparency mode... I know plenty way more expensive headphones that are way worse at the same time.

Clear winner: Airpods Max The Drop Panda sounds very muffled. A lot of the highs are missing.

The problem with the Max is that they are missing a little mid bass (to add a little more warmth). The bass is not balanced.

Pandas sound boomy to me and lack upper treble. Airpods Max sound much nicer.

I prefer the pandas soundsignature and I don't need anc..

The AirPods Pro sound a little brittle right off the bat, like there's a peak at 7k and maybe another one between 4 and 6k. It wasn't too bad once I got used to it after listening to the track for a bit, but it still bothered me a little. The Panda seems to be the opposite there, and also lacking at ~3k, but also seems to lack a bit of definition. I'm glad I didn't buy it when I'd been considering it.

Thanks I do agree with all you are saying about these 2 headphones, yet I wonder for someone who doesn't need ANC what better options he/she has for $550 if; 1. He/she is looking for only a closed/open back headphone to carry around 2. He/she is looking for both a headphone and a Bluetooth receiver together for $550.

I think the Airpods Max are in fact one of the best wireless headphones. you can also change the sound with an own audiogram which one of my Patrons just told me. It sounds definitely better like that.

they sound better with your own audiogram. you can import that into headphone adjustments, this definitely opens up the sound more and also fills up the 3khz dip. They sound smoother in reality than from my recording, I hope my new microphones will capture them better as I should hear how to position them to get the best sound.
