Make sure you return it and get a refund and never review a Sony again. They're crap . I had Sony speaker 4 years ago and learnt by watching you not to trust them . Sony were better in 80s and 90s. lol

Even with tweeters they failed again... the jbl is better to me with it’s lower bass and its openess but still harsh (treble are still less annoying than the sony). I have bought a used Bose Sounddock Portable for 40€, i think it’s a way better deal than the sony and the jbl because the sound is balanced, clear and loud, it’s impressive for the age but doesn’t have the lower bass boost of the Xtreme 3, also it distort and compress quite a bit at max volume, still replace nicely my Xtreme 1, I may compare it again the exos 3 when i will get it

Nothing good from Sony for years now. I know I liked the XB20 and XB30, even though neither were anything close to game changing either. I still own the XB30 today and it works well for small gatherings with a few people, especially now with the virus, but when I am inside and am not in the room with my T20's and self built subwoofer, I'll be using the trusty Vifa Oslo the most, and the Onyx Studio 5 when I am with friends or I just want a warmer sound for a bit.. Sony had something with the XB30, despite its faulty treble and sound that changes with every volume level, although it can still be quite nice even to this day. Anything after the XB30 has had straight up crappy sound though. Seeing how they finally got tweeters in their bigger portable speaker, the XB43, and they barely do anything, if anything at all. Very disappointed.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Bose Sounddock portable was one of my favourites for a long time, I later replaced it with a Soundlink Wireless which was more or less a Bluetooth version, but I also finally sold it as I got a good price back then. I somehow regret having sold it though. It sounded nice at low levels and could really play loud as hell for that size despite the string compression.

I was still sure it would be even worse. I mean it’s useable and doesn’t sound off. The tuning is pretty neutral but it’s in the details where it simply fails. I have some other video outdoors coming up

They had decent stuff before the Bluetooth era. I remember some cool speakers from them with Apple dock, I even wanted to buy one as it sounded so huge, but it had no battery. I have it somewhere on my blog, must look it up.

One of my best deals i bought for £69 was the Panasonic SC-RS52EB-K. Amazing all in one system that was going for £200 but on a UK catalogue site had black Friday event 4 years ago. Its a plug in system and its got nice sound stages settings.

Quite a disapontement indeed , saw a comparison against the xb40, and it sounded better by a bit, also you sad at the end that the xb33 was worse but it's actually better, to tell the truth its the best in this lisneup, as i also heard in a store against xb23 and it really wasn't really half bad, considering even at lower lvls the xb23 sounded way worse. Also here in my country sony's speakers seemed to have lowered quiet a bit speacially xb43 got down to 150 or 160€, and as for xb33 110€, that just to tell maybe sony maybe now is starting to get unlucky with their hyped market selling haha.

Should I try the XB33 as well? I doubt it can compete against a Soundcore Motion+?

These “Extra Bass” speakers never cease to disappoint... Maybe the portable Bluetooth market is such a small portion of their business that they don’t care to invest more quality into them. Very strange for such a strong brand.

Onyx Studio sojnds way better, the latest one should sound even better although right now it’s more expensive but don’t forget that the original price of the Sony was 250€. I mean even the way smaller Helsinki sounds much better, the Sony was really bad IMO.
