Behind the scenes writing: Episode 1 (2/4) (Patreon)
Content
(Warning! This post may contain major spoilers for the story! Read further at your own risk.)
So in case it isn't clear with what we're doing here for update 0.15, we're going back and adjusting older content. Mainly fixing up and updating the writing so that it's more in lines with how the writing quality is seen from our route's writing so far.
We're doing something with this where the current system of dates/days are going away and in it's place it'll be episodes instead. We touched a bit on this during our news post #2 for this month. But pretty much it sounds bigger than what it really is, as it's just moving away from the in your face date/time system in favor of giving off the impression on your playthrough that the game is more like anime episodes.
With that all said, let's jump into it! (reminder this is just 2/4th of the episode, the rest will be covered in other behind the scene writing posts in the coming week! ^^)
Episode 1: We're required to wear what?!
Continuing where we left off in the previous post, we see Brandon heading to the class with John and entering.
John briefly introduces the new transfer student to the class and instantly Erika realizes who it is, a bit shocked and this leads to John recalling that he saw that they shared the same last name, but he forgot.
John asks if it's okay if Erika shares her book with him, since it'd be better than making Brandon pair up with someone completely new to him. She agrees, he goes to join her at her desk and before they get into class stuff. John has to do a diaper attendance to ensure everyone is wearing their diapers.
The students have to lift their skirts and Brandon realizes he too must show his diaper, getting a little nervous as now all the students are looking at him and waiting. John decides that it's okay to skip out on it for today, but only because he was with Brandon to make sure he changed into his diaper/uniform.
Things continue forward after this, as Erika and Brandon begin to chat. She is confused how he's even at the academy and he's wondering how she managed to show up here since it's been 5 years since their parents divorced and caused her to move away. After figuring out they moved back and she was accepted to attend after she was finished with high shool, they mention briefly about the parents.
Things get a bit moody as they choose to get quiet and focus on their reading material, after some time, class ends and we see John ask Erika if she'd be willing to help out by taking Brandon to the headmaster's office to get his dorm key and tell him some stuff about the academy. She agrees because she wants to also spend more time with her brother after so long.
The two head to the headmaster's office, while chatting about the academy a little bit and also tossing in some mentions from their past together. They reach the office and Brandon thinks it's a bit odd how they just have a box with his dorm key in it sitting outside the door, questioning why they can't see the headmaster and what not.
Erika suggests he doesn't try prying too much into that, as they head off to his dorm room. On the way they mention some more academy stuff and some light mentions of their past here too. We learn that the academy has a credit point system for students to buy food, drinks, etc. How it works, etc.
While checking his room out and learning of the credit system, he finally feels the urge to pee. But he is nervous and doesn't want to do it, yet his sister picks up on this and offers to stand out in the hallway and tries to remind him that even other students aren't too comfortable doing this and have been here for longer.
He has no choice but to wet himself and doesn't quite like the feeling of it, but once meeting outside in the hallway with his sister. She decides to take him to the nurse so he'll know where to go and get his diaper changed for the future.
Things will end for this part of the behind the scenes with Brandon and Erika going to the nurse's office, he gets his diaper changed briefly and there's some mentions of how the systems for the diaper stuff works. (expanding on the diaper storage system for diaper changes, waste disposal, etc.)
It ends with Brandon leaving the office for now, we'll see where things go from here in our next part of "Behind the scenes writing: Episode 1 (3/4)" ^^
~Writer notes~
-This (2/4) part of episode 1 came out to roughly 4500 word count. While there is currently no choices laid out here in this given area yet, we could possibly see some choices still pop up here. We'll look it over.
-I think just the small new additions to this stuff seen after the classroom are enough to help ease the pacing of how Brandon and Erika's relationship is seen. It should feel like there's a bit uneasy, awkwardness with it as they ease into how to act around each other once again.
-One of my things I liked doing the most with this was fixing how Erika in the classroom came across before. Currently in the game you introduce yourself and it's like a bit of dialogue of John bringing Erika up to the front of class to ask if she can share her book, etc. Before she realizes "Oh yeah, that's my brother!" while now with this, it'll feel more realistic where it's like seeing someone you knew and haven't seen in 5 years. You might look at them a bit and think "wait... is that? no... is it?" but it has John mention his name in full and confirm it for her, so it should make things just feel natural now.
-I also like the idea of Erika being this character to help Brandon out early on with stuff, because well it makes sense based on their past together. Being siblings and having it under the impression they had a good status with each other in the past, it uses that to easily help set up having her help him out a bit.
-There was a little bit of room where it felt natural to toss a brief bit of Miki dialogue in and foreshadow her coming up later on. So hopefully that'll add to her already currently seen moment when she shows up. :P
-Hopefully if you read our previous behind the scenes (1/4) for this episode, you'll remember the mention of rules and how everything is more in depth. Well I don't think I flat out mentioned it, but diaper attendance is part of a rule and feels fitting that teachers would have to confirm if students had their diapers on and weren't trying to sneak around without them on. It's a little added thing for class time that just felt fitting to not only mention it as the rules and then forget about it, but to then see said rules in action happening.
