Some users seem confused by this, so let's talk about it.

Currently I have 5 dedicated servers for sideloader modpack, they are as follows:

  • Europe South 1, 1000mbps: Serving all games
  • Europe South 2, 1000mbps: Serving HS2 and AIS only
  • Europe South 3, 1000mbps: Serving KK, EC and KKS only
  • France, 1000mbps: Serving all games
  • Canada, 1000mbps: Serving all games

I got more servers for other uses, but this is the ones DEDICATED to sideloader modpack at this point in time. All the 100mbps and 500mbps servers are discontinued at this point in time.

Now, some users have correctly identified that the download speed isn't 5000mbps, and adding their mistaken belief that these are super niche games with just a few hundred users into account, conclude that it's just a shit service being offered.

Well, not really... We routinely have so much traffic hammering the servers that it basically behaves as a DDoS attack making a whole mess... And to add to that, traffic demand is on the rise.

This is one of the servers over the span of about the last two weeks, it rarely if ever dips bellow 100% bandwidth usage. All servers tell a similar story... let's just say that about 900TB x 5 isn't super cheap, and every time a server is decommissioned and replaced with another or added to the pool, demand just keeps rising, and the only real solution to the problem is to throw money at the problem, for better or worse.

These games stretch the definition of "niche", as there's clearly A LOT of users playing and requesting mods for these games. Hell, KK keeps appearing in the top sellers chart on steam somehow.

I am looking to expand continually ofc, and am looking to do so again, but yeah, this shit be expensive and ever escalating. I do ask for understanding in this matter, as data demands are in the level of large/medium size businesses at this point and still rising.

Also a little reminder here: $5 users can access the supporter download location at https://www.patreon.com/posts/40053287 running on a quite expensive pr GB solution (thus why it's not public)

I usually don't announce the minutia of server management on Patreon, so feel free to join my discord for information about that if you're interested, as I post operations updates there.

Just FYI, I tried connecting to the Patreon only server, and it actually seems to be a bit slower. On the public server I can usually get ~900 KB/s (but it varies considerably) and the Patreon one is about 650-750 KB/s but more of a stable speed for the most part.

that's weird, shouldn't give such low speeds... I'll test it later today, and my upload a updated server config to the post to allow download from all sources simultaneously

I also experienced slower download speed with the Patreon only server in the last few months. I just downloaded the config for EU S3 Updater (once again), but it has the same password since August 2020. In your post "Patreon exclusive mirrors for Sideloader Modpack" you wrote "This will also need to be reapplied monthly or so as I will be resetting password on a monthly basis." So why does the config-file still has the same password for over a year now?

Hah... we are legion..

That's an easy question. Basically, people have, by and large, played ball and not just picked it up and ran, so I haven't changed it to save the people using it the hassle of needing to change it. Several users faced a lot of inconvenience last time I did so, so try not to do so without a good reason. I could absolutely harshly enforce stuff like that, especially as that would make it so that less people just grab and run (I keep a track of the $5 group, and I see that a few of you are doing so, but such a small number that I don't feel like it's critical to inconvenience the people playing ball). That being said, when I update the sources for new setups here now, the codes will be changed, I'll also change the text in the post to reflect this I guess.
