Here's the first floor finished. I've got the second and third floors drawn already and I'll ink those today. So, what do you think so far?

Ethan, J.

Is it floating or fixed to the bottom of the water?

Ethan, J.

I'm just thinking that if it is floating more parts of the map should broken off into segments and connected by ropes or some type of flexible fasteners. The reason for that if it is floating the force of the waves hitting the docks would travel the entire build making it very shaky and run the risk of parts of the docks braking do to the uneven stress of the waves hitting the docks. Of course I know this is a make believe fantasy map so it isn't super important, I just wanted to point it out as an engineering feature.

I was thinking about that, but I imagined that would result in the different parts crashing into each other, which might be worse. So I figure this place is just very well reinforced underneath and, if it gets into a particularly bad storm, it's going to need some repairs, which is probably just a fact of life for the people living here. I look at it like this: storms can wreck ships, which are much better able to handle them than anything like this, so this place being damaged by storms is probably unavoidable to some extent. But maybe your idea would work better, I don't know. Not being an engineer myself, I just have to go by what feels right.

I'm not an engineer either but my father is, so we just end up thinking about these things in our house. As I said it was just a suggestion so do what you feel is right, but I do think the map should have maybe some small joints and fasteners added to the map for realism. Like some parts on the docks fastened with thick wooden moorings with chains or rope connecting parts of the build to represent some more flexible parts of the docks and maybe some heavy anchors to keep the port steady and stop it from drifting due to waves. Once again just a suggestion.
