I meant to post this yesterday, but here's the art for Murud-Janjira, the island fortress just off the western coast of India.

There's a temple to the Hindu god Shiva here, but I couldn't find a picture of the interior, so I had to do a little research to find out what a temple to Shiva would look like. Along the way, I learned a few interesting things:

  1. Shiva is the god of destruction and is known as "the Destroyer of Evil."
  2. Shiva is usually depicted with a cobra around his neck.
  3. Shiva has a third eye which, when opened, vaporizes everything it sees.

So apparently, Hinduism is surprisingly metal. I respect that a lot, I really do.

Anyway, I'm gonna get back to coloring the map.

Based on the icon that was in the plan you shared earlier, and just generally how Shiva temples are set up, it's probably a Lingam that's there instead of statue of Nataraja or any of the other common depictions of him. But artistic license means you can do a dope statue in there instead.

I actually drew a lingam! The temple is the one next to the building in the center with 4 pillars. I tried to draw a statue, but it's a small building and I thought it'd be better to keep it simple. Glad to hear that's probably more accurate.

I run a modified AD&D campaign. In the campaign world the Lizard Folk, called the Lisshe, are an ancient race but they have dwindled in power and position. They still hold two great islands that represent the last strongholds of their civilization. Their architecture, culture, etc. is loosely based on the Maya with some Western Influence. The campaign is small with only three relatively new players. One a half-elven templar, one a human druid, and the third a Lisshe Huntsman (a class in my campaign that translates as a kind of mix of warrior and rogue). As they complete the adventure they are on, they will find a map showing the location of an ancient island temple of the Lisshe. The map is on the body of a Lisshe merchant who was slain by a rabid cult. The map has markings that indicate treasure is there but it will also speak of some kind of nefarious power that corrupted and destroyed the temple. The Lisshe character will absolutely want to go to find out more about his ancestors as well as free a sacred place, and the templar will want to defeat a source of evil power, and the druid will see an opportunity to restore balance. The Plot: The temple has fallen into the hands of Sahuagin who are attempting to use the stronghold's residual talismanic power to summon up one of their gods in order to renew their age-old war against the Lisshe! Once the party scouts the location, they will start to get a sense of what is happening and then they will have to find a way to infiltrate the temple, find the main worship chamber and destroy the mystical pearl that is the focus for the great summoning that will occur on the great autumnal equinox which is but three days from their arrival! To be sure there are shades of, well 80% of the b-list fantasy movies of the 80's but if a plot isn't broken, don't fix it!! ;-) Thanks again!

I think this place might be really good for that. I'm coloring it really mossy and overgrown, which feels very lizardman to me.
