Important context for the $2.5 million price tag for WCW: What isn’t often included in the sale price is the fact that WWE took on all liabilities that WCW still had on its books, which included guaranteed salaries for a number of talents (Hogan, Sting, Hart, Goldberg, Hall, and Nash being the most prominent) and debts owed to vendors, distributors, etc. Basically, WWE paid $2.5 million to take on like $40-$60 million in liabilities, so it was far more expensive than the reporting tends to suggest.
