you are mostly right when you said the bird was not targeting Ichigo... thats why he was able to block it as the bird was not expecting it... and thats why Rukia said he cant stop it second time which very likely was true...

Well 1.000.000 Zanpakuto is a big number but the question is what exactly is the basis for 1 Zanpakuto ? The average Zanpakuto would likely be the Zanpakuto of some average rank and file Soul Reaper, the same guys that get done in by the dozen by the likes of Ichigo, Sado or Renji without breaking a sweat, the kind of guys that Orihime knocked out just with Karate. If you put up Byakuya against a army of average rank and file Soul Reapers and their Zanpakuto I don't see it ending any other way than his Shikai and Bankai just shredding them to pieces without effort. So while stopping it is certainly an impressive feat I feel like the number 1.000.000 inflates it beyond what it is.
