The original Fate/Stay Night was a visual novel video game that was played by making choices as you played through. There were 3 routes the story could take depending on the choices you made: -Fate: Where Shirou falls in love with Saber. -Unlimited Blade Works: Where he falls in love with Rin. -Heaven's Feel: Where he falls in love with Sakura. So all you're seeing is the route that happens in the original story if you made the choices that lead you to ending up with Sakura. As you can see the choices also effect the story a lot more then simply deciding which girl he ends up with. Also I feel I should mention that the Heaven's Feel route is considered to be the official canon story for the original Fate/Stay Night. (Edit: Or at least it was way back in the day when the visual novel was pretty much all there was to the entire franchise, these days it's easier to just all all routes are canon and they are just different timelines.) One more thing I personally want say Rider herself is not weak. Remember servants power can fluctuate depending on who their acting master is and Rider in the first fight of the movie had Shinji who is a trash master. Also as you can probably tell Rider and Shinji don't have a good relationship so although she followed his order to fight Saber because she had to, she didn't want to follow his orders so she wasn't really trying in the first fight of the movie against Saber. That will be a bit more apparent when you see the next 2 movies. I just wanted to say that because I feel like people get a poor impression of Rider because of how she got caught off guard and killed by Kuzuki in Unlimited Blade Works and her poor showing in the first fight of Heaven's Feel. As you see in the second fight though she can be very strong when she actually wants to fight.

Heavens feel is the one people consider canon? I'm not disappointed, I think Sakura is best girl and their move makes the most sense but it still surprises me that people think that

Basically what happened in the beginning of UBW stays the same(like summoning saber, cleaning the dojo), but the story is way different for the 3 movies. Think of this as like a different timeline.

Think of it all as the same time period but Shirou chooses different dialog choices lol. Different turn of events than UBW, its not that stuff wasnt shown. UBW is one line of events, HF is another and while some things still happen similarly, different stuff will happen now that its more Sakura focused
