Oh god I drew this picture in 2008 help

I've been kind of flippant in the Meek site posts but, I like this chapter a lot. I like the dynamic between the kids, and their shitty dad.

The deSadar name itself is a concession to modern times; Luca's actual surname is Sadr, and pronounced far more gutturally like most Basori is. A large part of his rise to power was based on the theme of unification against a common enemy in the South, and to prove his commitment, he changed his surname to reflect the Santri naming standard which usually has a "de," meaning of/ from, prefacing it (for example our friends from previous chapters Pinter deJersi or Amen deGladobet). It's now a commonly accepted gesture to water down your name, but at the time it was seen as a slap in the face to actual Pasori, who find dilution of tribal anything to be extremely offensive. Luca himself is divisive as all get out among his own people but it helps a bit when you've got additional resources/tigers in your court.

The kids also reflect this mix of cultures. Rana takes after her dad the most, obviously, but Hyla looks very much like her paternal grandfather. And Suda has longer, fairer features more similar to his mom's side of the family, but is missing the pigmented nose. As mixed-race kids they would probably not be very well-received in the "real world," but being children of the Emperor, they are pretty out of touch with that side of things.

Anyways~ I was hunting around for Suda art to use for a post but I found this old pic and thought it would be good to lead in with this :]

Is the guy on the left Luca's father? We haven't met him, have we?
