Charmingly random! It's a shame the "White Meteor/Shooting Star" moniker never caught on. (It's mentioned in Entertainment Bible 39, so it goes back at least as far as 1991.) Not only does it set up a possible connection to later series that might use the "meteor" catchphrase, but it also suggests that it was the solo re-entry that first turned the Gundam into a legend. "The white mobile suit that fell to Earth and kept on kicking butt..."

Great research piece! Seems perfectly fitting that Gato is the one who called Amuro the White Devil as he's known as such an over the top Zeon loyalist/fanboy. I'm one of those individuals introduced to Gundam via its rather wonky US release order. Saw Gundam Wing first, then the original show via its Cartoon Network airing, and in the immediate aftermath Char's Counterattack, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083 and 08th MS Team. Wouldn't see Zeta Gundam until its official US release around 2004/2005 and ZZ a couple of years after that via fansubs. As such pretty much all the Zeta references in 0083 went over my head. When Haman has her cameo my only response was "Who?". Ironic considering she would become my favorite character from the entire Gundam franchise after seeing Zeta and ZZ. Also because now I'm one who strongly recommends that people watch Zeta before 0083, even though that's not how I experienced it. I also remember in Char's Counterattack when Char rather awkwardly calls them the "Teetans" in the English dub and wondering if that's how they were going to call them when Zeta came out (thankfully not).

It also matches with Char being the Red Comet. Char's the one who burns through the sky. Amuro can come back down to Earth.
